SUMMARY:Gifted 101: Understanding Giftedness
DESCRIPTION:Team Tutors invites you to our Speaker Series event \nGifted 101: Understanding Giftedness \npresented by Sharon Duncan\, Co-Founder Gifted Identity\nand Gifted Research and Outreach\, Inc. \nGifted children are both a joy and challenge to raise. The innate behaviors and characteristics of giftedness can sometimes be perplexing and/or look like areas of concern. Giftedness is about so much more than just being “smart” or “grades in school.” Gifted consultant\, Sharon Duncan\, will discuss the social and emotional needs of gifted children and parenting issues related to those needs and provide a vocabulary to help melt away perceptions of elitism that often surround the subject of giftedness. Understanding what giftedness really is and how it impacts every facet of an individual’s life\, is paramount to have open and honest discussions about how to meet the needs of this population. \nSharon works with parents\, educators\, schools\, districts\, psychologists and pediatricians to help them understandand meet the needs of gifted and twice exceptional children. She is a SENG Model Parent Group facilitator\, and a member of the National Association for the Gifted\, the California Association for the Gifted\, the Texas Association for the Gifted\, American Mensa\, and PG Retreat.  She has served on the governing boards of both public and private schools and is currently an advisor for a school for the highly gifted. Prior to her work with Gifted Identity\, she spent 26 years working at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
